Rounding up the features of iOS 12

MANILA, Philippines - Apple put the latest version of their iOS mobile operating system front and center at this year’s Worldwide Developer Conference (WWDC) on Monday, June 4.

The new update – simply called iOS 12 – is bringing a number of new features and improvements with it. We've rounded up the most notable of the iOS 12 additions below.

Improved performance

Apple is hoping to right previous wrongs by improving performance with the new update.

Instead of slowing down devices, iOS 12 is said to launch apps twice as fast even on much older devices like the iPhone 5s.

Memoji

iOS 12 expands on the roster of Animoji introduced with the iPhone X by adding a koala, a tiger, a ghost, and a T-rex. Meanwhile, users can now create and personalize their own Animoji called MeMoji. All these now feature more expressions with the inclusion of winks and tongue movement. Both can be used in FaceTime and Messages where they can be coupled with a set of new effects and filters.

Screen Time and Do Not Disturb

Just to make sure people don’t get preoccupied with their mobile devices, Apple is adding detailed data and statistics of user activity, it’s calling Screen Time. Users can now restrict themselves from using certain apps by setting time limits or locking it out completely. Additionally, there is a Do Not Disturb mode that can hide notifications during the night when people should be sleeping.

iOS 12 is coming to all devices currently running iOS 11 within the next week or so. Apple has announced that the developer beta is available starting today. – Rappler.com
