#SelfieForPeace winners to get peace shirts

MANILA, Philippines – It was a selfie kind of a national celebration.

After 17 years of negotiations, the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Foundation (MILF) finally signed a peace agreement on March 27. The deal aims to end 40 years of conflict in Mindanao.

How did the social media capital of the world celebrate this historic peal deal? With selfies, no less!

This is nothing unusual from a country which, according to Time Magazine's ranking of the "Selfiest Cities in the World," creates more self-shot portraits shared on social media than any other area on the planet. This is per capita and with just two cities: Makati and Pasig.

Why even take a #SelfieForPeace?

Of course, we could not just let this event happen unnoticed, especially by the youth. It was a time to party! And who best know how to party but the young ones, right?

The Blas F. Ople Policy Center, in cooperation with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) and Rappler, mounted the #SelfieforPeace campaign to encourage the youth to take their most expressive selfies as they participate in the historic peace deal signing wherever they are.

The campaign, which ran from March 24-March 27, asked the youth to share their voice through their own platform – online – and their favorite form of expression: selfies.

That's not even the best part! 50 of those who joined will each be receiving commemorative peace T-shirts donated by OPAPP.

Here are the lucky 50:
