Apple Intelligence’s Private Cloud Compute “can flex and scale its computational capacity and draw on larger, server-based models for more complex requests.”

These models run on servers powered by Apple silicon and allow Apple to ensure data is never retained or exposed.

Adding to this, Apple said, “Independent experts can inspect the code that runs on Apple silicon servers to verify privacy, and Private Cloud Compute cryptographically ensures that iPhone, iPad, and Mac do not talk to a server unless its software has been publicly logged for inspection. Apple Intelligence with Private Cloud Compute sets a new standard for privacy in AI, unlocking intelligence users can trust.”

Apple announces ChatGPT integration, coming to iOS 18, iPadOS 18, and Mac OS Sequoia “later this year” with plans to support more AI models in the future.

Apple devices will ask for your permission first if you would want to use ChatGPT for a certain functions.

Basic ChatGPT use can be used for free on Apple devices without registration.

Understanding of Context: Grounded in your personal information, and based on what’s on your screen, the AI will process only relevant personal data to assist a user.

Privacy protections

Aware of your personal data but without misusing your data, via on-device processing and private cloud compute.

Tasks are done on-device, but if a task needs more processing power, only data relevant to a task is sent to private cloud compute to complete just that task.

Siri, enhanced

Siri is enhanced with Apple Intelligence, allowing it to understand personal context as it tries to respond to you and your queries, without compromising your privacy.

Apple’s original virtual assistant is getting smarter, Apple said.

It can identify what’s on the screen such as an address in a text message, enhance photos, and have a better understanding of context in tasks it’s requested to undertake.

Siri will be able to take more actions in more apps over time.
