Germany reinstates border controls over refugee surge

Local authorities in Germany, which has earned praise for its welcoming stance towards refugees, are buckling under the sudden surge of arrivals. Germany on Sunday, September 13, announced that it would reinstate border controls with Austria. German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere also announced that refugees would no longer be allowed to pick which European countries should host them. Meanwhile, the refugee crisis continues with at least 28 people, half of them babies and children, drowning in another migrant tragedy off Greece on Sunday, September 13.
