[OPINION | Artwork] Don’t leave them hanging

When the country’s doctors warned President Rodrigo Duterte that they were nearing the end of their rope when it came to fighting the coronavirus, the last thing they needed was Duterte accusing them of calling for revolution and destabilization.

Artist Glenn Mendoza found Duterte’s remarks to our frontiners “appalling, and I am so disgusted and disappointed by it.”

“A call for help is very different from staging a revolt. They should know the difference,” he added.

Mendoza, an engineer and self-taught artist, channeled these feelings into the artwork below:

Mendoza was also a former animator and worked for Adultswim’s Rick & Morty. He now draws for fun.

“I always say, ‘On a very, very good day, it becomes art. On an ordinary day, it becomes escape,'” he says.
