Indonesian man admits to murder: ‘She said I smelled bad’

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A 24-year-old Indonesian man admitted on Wednesday, April 15, that he was so offended by a woman who complained of his body odor while they were having sex that he ended up strangling her to death.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Herry Heryawan, the head of the violent crime division at the Jakarta Police, told reporters the suspect was irritated that the victim was covering her nose and complaining about the smell of his body while they were having intercourse.

“She said my body smelled of cigarettes,” the suspect, Muhammad Prio Santoso alias Rio Santoso, told reporters at a South Jakarta police station, according to Tribunnews.com

He was referring to Deudeuh Alfi Sahrin, believed to be in her late 20s, who was found dead in her rented room in South Jakarta on Saturday, April 11.

“And what annoyed me the most was she said that the odor almost made her pass out,” Rio added.

Heryawan said the suspect, who said he works as a tutor, stuffed a sock in the victim’s mouth and strangled her with a hair dryer cord. He then took the victim’s laptop and cellphones and fled to Bogor, where he was arrested early on Wednesday.

Local media report that the victim, also known as Tata, was a sex worker. Her Twitter account, @tataa_chubby, states in the profile that she's 25 years old and charges IDR350,000 ($27) per hour, room included. The account would often post "testimonials" from satisfied customers.  – Rappler.com
